Supported File Formats for Holographic Displays

Ensuring Your Content Plays Flawlessly
To guarantee smooth and high-quality playback on your Holodxb holobox, it's essential to use supported file formats. This guide outlines the most common and recommended formats for our displays. Always refer to the specific model's user manual as certain models may have minor variations.
1. Video File Formats (Primary for Holographic Content):
Holographic content is almost exclusively delivered as video files, typically featuring 3D animations or objects against a pure black background.
Recommended Formats:
MP4 (.mp4) with H.264 codec: This is the industry standard for high-quality, efficient video compression. It's widely compatible and offers an excellent balance between file size and visual fidelity.
MOV (.mov) with H.264 or ProRes codec: A popular format, especially for content created on macOS. ProRes offers very high quality but results in larger file sizes.
Avoid (or confirm compatibility):
WMV, AVI, FLV, WebM: While some holoboxes might support these, they are generally not recommended for optimal holographic display due to varying codec support and potential quality issues.
2. Resolution and Aspect Ratio:
Critical Factor: The resolution of your video is paramount. Holoboxes require specific vertical aspect ratios for the holographic effect.
Common Resolutions: While Full HD (1920x1080) is a base, the content itself is often designed for tall aspect ratios like 1080x1920 (for vertical display), or custom resolutions provided in our content templates.
Always use the provided template or consult our team for exact resolution and aspect ratio requirements for your specific holobox model.
3. Image File Formats (For Static Displays - Less Common for Holograms):
While holographic content is dynamic video, some holoboxes can display static images for branding or informational purposes.
Recommended Formats:
JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg)
PNG (.png) - Supports transparency, useful for overlaying elements if the holobox's software allows.
4. Audio Formats (Embedded within Video):
Audio is typically embedded directly within your video files.
Recommended: AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) for MP4 files.
Key Considerations for All Content:
Pure Black Background: For all video content, the background surrounding your holographic object MUST be pure black (RGB 0,0,0) to maintain the illusion of a floating hologram. Any other color will be visible as a screen.
High Bitrate: Encode videos with a sufficiently high bitrate to prevent compression artifacts that can degrade the holographic effect.
Testing: Always provide your content to Holodxb for testing well in advance of your event. This allows us to confirm compatibility and make any necessary adjustments.
If you are unsure about your content's format or need assistance with optimization, please reach out to the Holodxb content team.
